University of Hawaii law professor, Randy Roth, considered an expert in trust law, along with a small group of distinguished Hawaiian elders, published a scathing article calling for the removal of all but one of the trustees. The article called, "Broken Trust" was a catalyst leading Hawaii Governor, Ben Cayetano to launch an investigation. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, senior senator, Dan Inouye, an icon of Hawaii's Democrat machine and one who always received the maximum campaign contributions from the trustees and use of Bishop Estate property at reduced rates, could see the handwriting on the wall. With his public endorsement of the governor's investigation, "Sheriff Dan" tried to take credit for rounding up the bad guys. Honolulu Weekly cartoon 8/20/1997
